*Effective Summer 2025 this course will be withdrawn* This course encompasses the training of paramedics in the areas of their role, medical/legal considerations, ethics, EMS Systems, personal wellness, injury prevention, general patient assessment, communications, documentation, assessment based management, and life span development. The paramedic student will also learn recognition and treatment of respiratory insufficiency. This course will consist of classroom theory and concurrent laboratory and clinical experience in simulated situation, hospital and pre-hospital settings. This course will consist of classroom theory and concurrent laboratory and clinical experience in simulated situations, the hospital and out in the field. It includes the kinetics of trauma, head, neck and spinal injury, body cavity trauma, musculoskeletal injuries, soft tissue trauma, burns, shock, and trauma resuscitation. Students will be introduced to the role of the paramedic and the ethical and legal aspects that influence field practice skills. Emphasis will be placed on a foundational understanding of pathophysiology, lifespan development, pharmacology, medication administration, assessment, communication, documentation, medical conditions, diseases, and treatment protocols. Students will integrate previously learned principles and skills with new theory and prepare for expanded responsibilities. Students will be introduced to additional hospital clinical rotations and the emergency department.
